Schalke poised for crucial three points
FC Schalke 04 secured three crucial points in the 2nd Bundesliga relegation battle against SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The match saw a penalty deciding the outcome in a game marked by disjointed play. Kenan Karaman netted the winning goal for Schalke in the 60th minute, elevating them to 14th place, just one point behind 13th-placed SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
The first half was characterized by disjointed play, with both teams struggling to create clear chances. Schalke needed the victory to distance themselves from the relegation zone, while SV Wehen Wiesbaden aimed to maintain their recent unbeaten streak. The breakthrough came in the second half when Karaman calmly converted a penalty awarded after Darko Churlinov was fouled in the box.
With SV Wehen Wiesbaden now forced to take more risks, Schalke had opportunities to capitalize on the counterattack but failed to find the back of the net again. Nevertheless, the victory was celebrated by Schalke's veteran player Simon Terodde, who emphasized its importance for the team and fans.
Looking ahead, Schalke will face Magdeburg in their next challenge, while SV Wehen Wiesbaden will host SC Paderborn.
